Richard "Bud" and Brad Peterson
Alta, IA
Pressure Cure® system right investment for small family run farm.
Richard Peterson has a growing corn operation in Alta, IA, located in the northwestern part of Iowa. For years he was using a small capacity batch type dryer that required his corn to be handled 4 times before it was ready for storage. The batch dryer would slow down his harvest time, and was expensive to operate.
His drying cost including electricity, diesel fuel, propane, labor, and most importantly - time. He was searching for a solution to his crop-drying problem that was going to offer an increase in the speed of drying, to cut his harvest time, as well as a reduced operational cost to offer a payback on his investment.
Richard was approached with a solution to his drying problems by Custom Marketing Co. representative - Mike Simon. He offered the use of 6-10 Hp CMC air pumps to be used for drying mounted on 2-10,000 bushel, 30 foot bins. He also gave the option to use 2-Energy Saver Packages, with each containing 3-10 Hp motor controllers for additional energy savings, further reducing his drying operational cost. He examined the benefits that Mike showed Richard how this system would be the best solution for his needs, and after some discussion, he decided that this solution was the right investment for his family run farm operation.
Following the completion of the construction of his new drying system, he started immediately to test the system by putting harvested corn into the new bins with 25% moisture content. He was able to harvest his corn fields faster than before, and was able to put the corn directly from the field into the bin where it would be dried, stored, and conditioned with less handling. When asked about what he thought about the system, Richard says, “The system performed real good, and I am very satisfied with the solution Mike Simon provided, costs less to dry, and we were able to harvest faster.” Thanks Richard for the great story!
