Richard Olson
Sturgeon Bay, WI
We are able to harvest as fast as we can unload into the bin.
Richard and Eric Olson farm near Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. In 1997 they retrofitted a 21’ diameter bin for Pressure Cure®. They were so satisfied with the results that two years later they built a new 48’ diameter Pressure Cure® system. They have several years of experience Pressure Curing corn. The following comments are from a recent follow-up interview with Richard.
"We are able to harvest as fast as we can unload into the bin. Our only limiting factor is the grain cleaner. We get a lot more sleep at night, because we don’t have to get up to switch batches. We have no overdried grain; a high quality product when we are done. We are now developing a new market for the corn burner owners, since our grain is very clean and burns very well."
"We are very impressed with the feed value of the Pressure Cure® corn. It seems to have much higher starch content, the kernels have no stress cracks and there is substantially less dust and fine matter. I am confident that due to its better overall condition, that it would store longer and be less likely to spoil. I supply hog farmers with feed and I have had several comment that they prefer it and that their hogs seem to gain weight better on it."
"We also operate a custom drying business utilizing our Pressure Cure® bins. Our customers are very satisfied with the ability to harvest faster, test weight retention and the high quality grain they receive back. We like it from the standpoint of less handling, no dryer babysitting and the cost advantage versus LP gas. Pressure curing is an easy choice over conventional gas drying methods."
