Traditionally, corn was hauled to the elevators who sorted it and shipped it to markets far away, reaping the benefits for the quality as they sold it.

Retrofit offers higher quality, better product for Bill and Joe Horan
In 1996, Bill and Joe Horan began moving toward a “higher quality, better product” marketing approach by converting their first conventional bin drying system to Pressure Cure®. Their motivation for doing so was the simplicity and savings in time, labor and maintenance costs offered by Pressure Cure®, as well as the superior quality product which results.
They had six bins with stirrators and gas dryers. They were plagued with time consuming maintenance, breakdowns and high operating costs. When considering alternatives, they eliminated batch and continuous flow dryers from consideration. Too much handling, expense and concern about heat damage led them to Pressure Cure®. They replaced the stirrators and heater in four 10,000-bushel bins with Pressure Cure® systems. They can now load the bins, turn on fans and focus on harvesting.
Bill feels that a big part of the future of farming in northwest Iowa is in on-farm storage and identity preservation. “Traditionally corn was hauled to the elevators who stored it and shipped it to markets far away, reaping the benefits of the quality as they sold it.”
With several ethanol plants in the area, producers will have to increase storage and preserve qualities that those plants are looking for. They can capture the profits, but will need to invest in a new type of system to do that. One that will make on-farm storage feasible and will retain the high starch content that ethanol plants require.
Pressure Cure® systems can provide the type of turnkey operation that will make that possible.
