Increased productivity, less man-hours and better quality small grains

Mike Dahlen, of Grand Forks, ND needed a little friendly persuading to believe that Pressure Cure® might be just the solution he needed. “Ernie Evenson and Raymond Wasness from Northwood, North Dakota, approached me several years ago about installing a Pressure Cure® system,” he explained. “They told me how it worked and to be perfectly honest, I didn’t believe them. It seemed too simple. After consulting North Dakota State University, they told me that they didn’t know much about it at the time.”

“Finally, after a number of years of them talking about this system, I gave in and told them to set this up the way they wanted and if it didn’t work, they would have to buy the grain if it rotted. Ernie and Ray didn’t seem to be the least bit scared. In 1992, the first year I used this, I did not harvest one load of dry grain and their system worked to my surprise, just as they said it would.”

“Because of this,” he said, “I have changed the way I harvest our small grains. Now I straight combine all of our small grains at higher moisture and put them right in the bins to let the fans dry them down. We use our swathers very sparingly (only in severely lodged grain). This gets the crop out of the field, protects it from the elements, retains the quality and reduces field loss.”

Dahlen added, “We have seen increased productivity from our combines, less man-hours, and better quality grains.”
